Interested in interning with the Cobb Chamber? We offer a variety of internships within our internal departments, providing a list of relatable experience for a wide range of career goals. Interns will receive hands-on experience working side-by-side Chamber staff and volunteers, and will walk away with new or sharpened skills and portfolio experience.
As a part of the Chamber’s internship program, participants also have the opportunity to attend seminars, workshops, meetings and events with speakers and topics relatable to career interests. We aim to provide optimal networking opportunities for each intern to gain meaningful contacts, experience and begin developing their own network.
Below are our available internship opportunities, each with a list of responsibilities and appropriate contact information. Please note: All internships are unpaid but can be used for class credit. The Cobb Chamber is dedicated to bringing the community and its leaders together to create jobs and strengthen the economy and quality of life so businesses and the community can achieve more. It is the mission of the Cobb Economic Development team to strengthen our local economy and drive the creation of jobs and investment. The Cobb Chamber serves as the single point of contact for economic development initiatives for both new and existing businesses, and plans multiple events throughout the year. Potential projects during an internship could include:
Event Planning – interns will take charge of many admin tasks associated with events (i.e. invitation lists, printing name badges, certificates, speaker/panelist confirmation, etc.)
RFI Assistance – when an economic development partner sends our team a Request for Information, the interns will assist in gathering the information needed to complete the form which includes contacting brokers, utility companies, ED partners at the city level, etc.
Committee Meeting Coordination – interns would coordinate participant schedules to ensure maximum attendance to meeting and send confirmations to all attendees.
Data Collection – This includes a variety of topics such as the Cost of Living Index research, trending analysis for existing industry, international market research, incentive policies, and city/state comparisons.
Industry Councils/Project Initiatives – Interns will research subject matter for and actively participate in group discussion. For example, our present intern is working on the Greenspace Initiative to develop an interactive trail system map.
In addition to these tasks, Economic Development interns are given the opportunity to attend many meetings, workshops and events where our local, city, and state economic development partners are also in attendance. MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS
The Marketing and Communications department is responsible for managing the Chamber brand, promoting the Chamber's missions, events and initiatives, and creating all publications, advertisements and collateral. Projects vary in complexity and need, typically including brainstorming, content and message planning, editorial writing and designing. Based on their skills and experience, interns will assist with projects, including:
Media Equivalency – maintain database of print and online media equivalency by cutting, measuring and calculating all news stories pertaining to the Cobb Chamber.
Public Relations Support – write and distribute press releases and media advisories promoting Cobb Chamber programs, upcoming events and news, follow-up calls with media outlets, assist with media requests, assemble press kits
Design Assistance – assist with design projects including advertisements, directories, flyers, etc.
Social Media Content – write blog posts promoting member and community news, monitor Chamber social media channels and help develop content
Writing Support – assist the department with various writing projects, including Message on Hold scripts, publication and web content, business letters, etc.
Ribbon Cutting Support – attend and photograph ribbon cuttings (when applicable) In addition to these tasks, various projects may become available over the course of the internship. Assist the Member Development team in engaging member to realize the most value for their investment. The goal of our department is to ensure every member is utilizing their membership help their organization flourish. The intern will assist with numerous events, member advantage programs, golf tournament, membership campaign, ribbon cuttings and much more. Additionally the role will assist with daily administrative duties, phone calls, email communications, and social media content creation. We want to help grow and develop a motivated individual. Intern will have the opportunity for exposure to various committees and meetings that align with their interests. MEMBER AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
With more than 400 events per year and 100 different programs, our Member and Community Programs department plans and executes the networking, growth and development opportunities offered to our members. This internship offers hands-on experience in event planning and volunteer coordination, with projects such as: Professional Development efforts - includes involvement in the planning process; communication with Small Business Advisory Board and attendees; additional work with invitations, sign-ups, data input, etc.
Registration Assistance – check in members at events, opportunity to interact with our members
Event Assistance – assist with planning, set up, execution and post-event projects related to the many Chamber events; projects may include communication with caterers, sponsors and attendees, additional work with invitations, sign-ups, data input, etc.
Data Entry – inputting data and database management related to Chamber events and programs
Public Safety and Military Committees (Summer & Fall Only) – assist in preparation for meetings, communications with volunteer committee
Leadership Committees – assist in preparation for meetings, communications with volunteer committee In addition to the above tasks, Membership Services interns will have the opportunity to attend a wide variety of Chamber events, with the opportunity to network, listen to guest speakers, etc.
