Health Care a Focus at the Cobb Chamber’s February First Monday Breakfast

Dr. William Cooper and Dr. Barry Mangel, physicians with WellStar Health System, spoke at the Cobb Chamber of Commerce’s First Monday Breakfast on Feb. 6 at 7:30 a.m. at the Cobb Galleria Centre.

The breakfast, sponsored by WellStar Health System, featured the presentation of the Health Hero Award as well as recognition of the Honorary Commanders Class of 2012.

This year’s Health Hero Award winners are Donna Chambers, nurse practitioner and manager of the KSU Community Health Clinic at MUST Ministries, and the Cobb Alcohol Taskforce.

Chambers was nominated for her work with the KSU Community Clinic at MUST Ministries, which is designed to address health disparities and provide accessible health care to uninsured or underinsured patients. Under Chambers’ leadership for the past four years, the KSU Community Clinic continues to serve more than 3,000 patients per year and provides health education and instruction for overall wellness.

Cobb Alcohol Taskforce, Inc. has made a positive health impact in Cobb County through its successful efforts to reduce underage and youth binge drinking. The program was formed in 2000 and mobilizes Cobb County adults to reduce underage drinking in the community.

WellStar was recently named one of the top 100 health systems by IMS, a leading health care information company. The health system was ranked the fifth in the U.S., up four spots from last year.

Cost to attend First Monday Breakfast events is $40 at the door for Chamber members and is $60 for general admission. For more information on upcoming Chamber events, visit www.cobbchamber.org/events.
