Next Generation Mentoring Program

Cobb Young Professionals created the Next Generation Mentoring Program in 2013 to build connections between members of Cobb Young Professionals and established members of the Cobb Chamber, in order to develop the future leaders of the Cobb County business community.

The program consists of face-to-face meetings and events throughout the program year, including discussions to set and track goals. Mentors will provide young professional participants with expertise and insight needed to grow successfully in their career, while helping develop and achieve personal goals.

Attendance at all program events and meetings is mandatory for maximum involvement. The time commitment is for seven one-on-one sessions (date and time to be determined with mentors) during the program year, as well as four program dates:

  • Thursday, Oct. 20 – Pairing Party (5:30 to 7:30 p.m.), Mandatory
  • Wednesday, Nov. 9 – Orientation (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), Mandatory
  • Wednesday, Feb. 1 – Mentee Roundtable (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), Optional
  • Wednesday, Mar. 1 – Mid-Year Social (5:30 to 7:30 p.m.), Optional
  • Wednesday, June 7 – Wrap-Up Party (5:30 to 7:30 p.m.), Mandatory

“It was an honor to be chosen as a mentee for the Cobb Young Professional’s Mentor Program, although I wasn’t quite sure what I was seeking when I applied. I was paired with what seemed early on as an unlikely mentor but through the process, I realized our differences made our pairing so beneficial. I was challenged to push myself out of my comfort zone and set both short and long term goals. Not only did I gain a new confidence, but I found a friend in my mentor as well as the opportunity to connect with others in unique ways throughout the process.”
Megan Stambaugh, Partner Services Director, Cobb Travel & Tourism

“Overall, this has been the best experience of my life. I am able to discuss some of my personal and professional opportunities with someone who’s had success in his current endeavors. I had no problems communicating with my mentor or setting up times to meet with him for lunch or dinner. I think that my mentor will be a great personal resource that will benefit me for the rest of my life.”
Patrick Harris, Engineer Supervisor, Georgia Power Company

“The Next Generation Mentoring Program and my mentor John Loud were extremely helpful to me and my business. As a small business owner it can be very dangerous to grow too quickly especially if you do not have the necessary systems in place prior to growth. Being able to share challenges with John and to tap into his experience as a successful business owner and insights was key to opening my second location and sustaining my growing catering business. Thank you John and thank you NGMP!”
    Val Lemoine, Firehouse Subs Franchisee

“What a memorable, enriching experience! I was paired with the perfect mentor who was selfless, honest, encouraging, pushed me out of my comfort zone and a blast to spend time with. He not only devoted his time to better me personally and professionally, but I was able to form a positive, lasting relationship. I would go through this program again in a heartbeat!”
Blythe Brakeville, Public Relations and Marketing, Woodstock Physical Therapy
