COBB COUNTY LATINO INITIATIVE

The Cobb Latino Initiative started in 2004 in response to the growing Latino population in Cobb County. This effort was the result of work done by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) and Cobb County in recognizing the region’s changing demographics. The Initiative puts into practice the philosophy that Cobb County is for all its residents and builds on diversity as a strength not an obstacle.
The Cobb Chamber of Commerce and Cobb County government pulled together community leaders, business leaders and the civic community to examine the county and to develop a vision for Cobb’s future. These efforts resulted in the creation of the Cobb County Roadmap which provides a clear community wide vision for our future.
Community stake holders have taken a pro-active stance in response to our changing economy and population while developing strategic initiatives to embrace and benefit our diversity. The Cobb Latino Initiative is a critical component of the Roadmap Project. Cobb has set itself apart from other counties because of its successful demonstration of engaging active citizens along with the business and government sectors to build on a common vision for our community’s future.
Communication, community outreach, and business development are key factors in the Cobb Latino Initiative. Although this a relatively new endeavor for Cobb County, the results have been remarkable.
The long-term benefits of diversity initiatives are innumerable. Residents of all backgrounds will feel like a part of the community in which they work, live, and play. Developing a strong cohesive community that acknowledges its similarities and embraces its diversities is what Cobb County and its Latino Initiative are about.

Hispanic/Latino Community Leadership Development graduates recently expanded their community involvement by completing Cobb County’s Citizen Emergency Response Training class.
