Principal for a Day
Just before the first bell rang on March 20,
more than 100 elected officials, community
and business leaders stepped into the role of
“Principal for a Day” at Cobb County and
Marietta City’s public schools. This marks the
seventh year of the program bringing forth the challenges and rewards of
the public school system to the business community.
Participants jumped right into classroom walk-throughs,
administrative meetings, and much more. Principals for a
Day had a hand in school operations and took note of the
staff’s efficiency and ability to multi-task.
The half-day
program also allowed principals to gain insight
into the business perspective on planning for
school programs.
The fun and informative day increased awareness of the
need for cooperation between the business community and
the school systems. The Principals for a Day were able
to interact with educators and students in a unique,
enriching environment, strengthening their relationship.

The Cobb Chamber of Commerce will be conducting a Job Shadow
program in select Cobb
County and Marietta City Middle Schools on September 11
and September 17 and is looking for business
participants who would like to host a class in their
workplace for half a day. The Job Shadow program is
designed to open the eyes and minds of middle school
students to the career possibilities awaiting them
while developing the critical link between the
skills they are learning and the importance of this
knowledge to career success. Participating companies
must attend a brief orientation session, provide
lunch for the students and chaperones, and commit a
minimum of 12 employees who would be able to host
one or two students each.
