Fred Bentley, Jr.
Immediate
past chair for the Cobb Chamber of Commerce is Fred
Bentley, Jr. of Bentley, Bentley & Bentley law firm.
Bentley become part of
only the second father-son pair to serve as chairman of
the Cobb Chamber. Bentley’s father, Fred Bentley, Sr.,
served as chairman in 1963. The father-son pair of Wyman Pilcher, Jr. and Wyman Pilcher III led the Chamber in
1955 and 1989, respectively.
A Marietta
native, Bentley practices law in downtown Marietta. He
received his undergraduate degree in accounting from the
University of Georgia in 1977 and his law degree from
Emory University in 1980. He is heavily involved with
the Chamber’s Leadership Cobb program, serving as
co-chairman of program in 2003-2004.
Bentley
commenced his law practice with Bentley & Bentley in
1980. Following moves to New Orleans, La., and Houston,
Texas in the 1980s, Bentley returned to Marietta where
he resumed his practice as a member of Bentley, Bentley
& Bentley. He established the office of and served as
the County Attorney for Cobb County from 1991 to 1993.
He serves on the local faculty of the Emory University
School of Law trial advocacy course. Bentley is a member
of the Cobb County Bar Association.
Bentley has held
memberships, offices and/or honors in numerous
organizations, including the Rotary Club of Marietta,
Kennesaw State University, United Way of Cobb County,
the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, the Southern Museum of
Civil War and Locomotive History, the Marietta/Cobb
Museum of Art, the Marietta Fine Arts Council and
Knights of Columbus.
He also has
served with the Regional Leadership Institute, the
Kennestone Hospital Foundation, Fellowship of Christian
Athletes, the Tommy Nobis Center and the American Cancer
Society.
Bentley has also
written, directed and performed in “Tuesday Nite Live,”
a series of parodies to raise money for the
Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art. He served as Attache for
the Gambia National Olympic Committee and was a
co-founding director of Georgian Bank. He currently
serves on the board of Georgian BanCorporation, the
holding company for Georgian Bank.
Bentley is
married to Patricia Foster and has four children, Rhett,
Matthew, Caroline and Landon. The Bentleys are members
of the Church of the Apostles in Atlanta. |
