Originated in 1988, the purpose of GOSH is not only to show appreciation for teachers in the community, but also to encourage area businesses, parents, and civic groups to take an active role in enhancing the quality of education. Held annually, GOSH is a celebration that honors more than 130 Teachers of the Year from Cobb County, Marietta City and post-secondary education systems. This salute to public education is one of the largest in the nation.
2012 GOSH Events
October marked the 24th Annual Give Our Schools a Hand event for Cobb County’s Teachers of the Year! GOSH allows Cobb County to recognize over 130 of our most deserving teachers from Marietta City, Cobb County and post secondary institutions. The events were kicked off with the Oct. 3 Handprint Unveiling Ceremony in Marietta Square. The Cobb County and Marietta City District Teachers of the Year were honored and commended with their handprints in the Teacher Walk of Honor. On Oct. 30, the celebration breakfast and pep rally were held at Roswell Street Baptist Church where all of the Teachers of the Year were presented with gifts and plaques. More than 2,000 local students attended to cheer on their favorite teacher of the year and provided entertainment through dance and musical productions. The four District Teachers of the Year received a new car of their choice courtesy of Ed Voyles Automotive Group at the Cobb Chamber's November First Monday Breakfast.
