Marietta, GA (July 7, 2008) - The United States Chamber of Commerce awarded the Cobb Chamber of Commerce with a 5-Star Accreditation for its sound policies, effective organizational procedures, and positive impact on the community.

Of the 6,936 chambers in the United States, only 44 of them are 5-star accredited. The Cobb Chamber is the only 5-star Chamber in the metro Atlanta area.

“Accreditation recognizes chambers for their high standards of practice, full accountability to members, and steadfast commitment to community,” said Thomas J. Donohue, president and CEO, U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “We applaud the Cobb Chamber for advancing these principles of free enterprise.”

Accreditation is the only national program that recognizes chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement. In order to receive Accreditation, a chamber must meet minimum standards in their operations and programs, including areas of governance, government affairs, and technology. This extensive self-review can take three to six months to complete and is done every five years. “We have been proud of our Chamber and understood, very well, how professional our team was for years,” said Cobb Chamber Chairman Sam Kelly. “It is always good to receive confirmation of your value and achievements through outside agencies.”

Local chambers are rated Accredited, 3-Stars, 4-Stars, or 5-Stars. The final determination of accreditation status is made by the Accrediting Board, a committee of U.S. Chamber board members.

“Our team is recognized throughout the Southeast and our state as a premier Chamber,” says Bill Cooper, president and CEO, Cobb Chamber of Commerce. “I am so proud that the U.S. Chamber believes the same.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation, representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.

The Cobb Chamber of Commerce represents Cobb County’s diverse, dynamic business community. The Cobb Chamber is a member-supported business organization working with all organizations within the county to maintain a healthy economy by bringing business and industry to the area, helping established firms grow and building the community through outreach and service.
