Be a Teacher for a Day

Applications are now being accepted for the 2018 program of Teacher for a Day, presented by Northside Hospital. The Cobb Chamber invites you, the week of February 5-9, to experience a uniue, firsthand account of the challenges and strengths that local educators face on a daily basis.

As a Teacher for a Day, Cobb County business leaders are given the opportunity to work side-by-side a Teacher of the Year at a post-secondary, Cobb County or Marietta City school for a day. The teacher and participant will connect at the beginning of the week and select the date that would be best for them. This program requires the commitment of a half workday.

All applications must be submitted by Wednesday, January 17. For more information, contact Katie Guice at 770-859-2334 or kguice@cobbchamber.org.

Congratulations to our 2017 Citizens of the Year

These outstanding citizens are chosen for their definable, exceptional deeds, with which they have made their community a better place to live. Awards are given to deserving individuals based on local area nominations.

The Start of the 2018 Legislative Session

Monday, January 8 marks the beginning of the 2018 session of the Georgia General Assembly.

The State Capitol building will once again be buzzing with energy. The first day of session also shares the spotlight with the National Championship Game. With as many Bulldogs as there are “under the dome” it is very possible we can expect a short work day.

We anticipate the House and Senate leadership will do their best, as they have in recent years, to have a very no nonsense and relatively short legislative session. However, with the 2018 political season already upon us, there will no doubt be some dramatic and exciting moments as well. We wish the members of our Cobb Legislative Delegation well, including our newly elected members Senator Kay Kirkpatrick, Senator Jen Jordan and Representative Teri Anulewicz, going into their first legislative session.

The Cobb Chamber will be keenly focused on expected discussions surrounding transit funding and governance, coming from the work of the House Commission on Transit Governance and Funding. Our Chamber Board of Directors will approve the Chamber’s 2018 state legislative agenda on Monday, which was developed by the Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee, led by Chairman Mark Mathews. Once approved, the legislative agenda will be published on the Advocacy section of the Chamber’s webpage.

Invest in the Lives of the Next Generation at Future Fest 2018

Cobb Career, Technology and Agricultural Education (CTAE) is hosting the 2nd Annual Festival of Careers, Future Fest 2018 on Febuary 7.

This career expo is designed for students at Cobb and Marietta middle and high schools to explore careers that will be in high demand for skilled talent in the coming years. Employers from across the country are invited to create an interactive and engaging experience to allow students to gain a deeper understanding of what a career in a specific field might look like and to ask questions and develop a network among business leaders in the community.

Katherine Moore

Katherine Moore, an Atlanta resident, is an award winning artist whose style is realistic and reflects an interest in a variety of subjects. Composition, balance and color are the elements that influence her work. After working only in oils for several years, Moore was drawn to colored pencil painting due not only to the strength, depth and color of the pigment found in this medium, but also to the level of detail that it allows her to capture.

Moore has been juried into many regional, national and international shows. Most recently, she was accepted into the Colored Pencil Society of America's 2017 International Show in Washington D.C., where she received a prestigious award for Exceptional Merit. Other recent juried show acceptances include the 2017 Hilton Head National Exhibit; John's Creek 2016 and 2017 Summer Serendipity exhibits; 2016 and 2017 Southworks National Exhibits in Watkinsville, Georgia; 2016 Marietta/Cobb Museum of Metro Montage XVI National Show as well as many Atlanta Artists Center exhibits.

In addition, Moore is a Merit Member of the Atlanta Artisits Center, where she serves on the Board of Directors as First Vice President. She also maintains membership in the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation, Dunwoody Fine Arts and the Atlanta Fine Arts League.
