Today, the Cobb Chamber of Commerce honored students from North Metro Technical College and Chattahoochee Technical College for their academic achievement in the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) program at its First Monday Breakfast. The GOAL program recognizes outstanding technical education students in Georgia.
Joyce Maldonado was named the 2009 winner from Chattahoochee Technical College, while Cheri Prescott accepted the award for North Metro Technical College. They were both honored with a plaque and scholarship. Maldonado and Prescott will move on to the consortia level GOAL competition and compete against other technical education students from their consortia. Each consortium then selects two students to move on to the state GOAL competition.
GOAL is a 37-year-old statewide program that recognizes student academic success and personal achievement in technical education. The GOAL program is sponsored locally by the Cobb Chamber and is funded by cash contributions from local businesses and friends of the school.
In addition, several other students were recognized for their outstanding achievements, character and leadership. They were: Rachel Clark, Kristina Gaines and Richard Kirkham from Chattahoochee Technical College and Daniel Ballard, Lisa McKinney and Freddy Morgan from North Metro Technical College.
The breakfast was sponsored by YWCA of Northwest Georgia.
